SightSpace 3D Support

Support for the SightSpace™ 3D mobile app is available by phone at 877.663.3797, email or below.

Viewer

The default mode is a Google SketchUp (or .KMZ) model viewer. Incorporating the intuitive controls of the device, utilize a single finger to orbit around the model, a double finger swipe to pan, and two fingers to pinch zoom in and out. A double tap will reset the view. Additional view controls are available under the View Mode menu marked with an eyeball icon.

Augmented Reality

Augmented Reality (AR) superimposes a virtual model onto the real world via the device camera and is only available on devices with the necessary hardware (phones and tablets with either 1)compass/accelerometer + camera + geo-location or 2) compass/accelerometer/gyroscope + camera + geo-location). AR works because both the device and model are geolocated. To ensure on-site accuracy, check the following:

  • The .KMZ file must be geolocated
  • AR Basic: If your device says "AR (Basic)" in the tab bar, you may experience a slight lag in model updating when moving the device in AR mode. Keep your movements slow and smooth.
  • Enable GPS when prompted. SightSpace will choose the most accurate geo-location method for your device to ensure accuracy.
  • If there is no cellular or wifi connection, model can be manually located by tapping, dragging, and further adjusting
  • Interference
    • If the model appears to be in the wrong location in Augmented Reality mode, use the Maps application to ensure your device has you positioned correctly.
    • Alternatively, move the device away from any local magentic sources, press the Home key, and tap on the SightSpace icon. This will re-initialize the Augmented Reality engine.
    • Lastly, recalibrate SightSpace by selecting Menu -> Settings -> Calibrate augmented reality. The device will undergo a 7 second calibration. Device calibration can be reset by selecting Menu -> Settings -> Calibrate augmented reality -> Reset Calibration

Opening from Email and Dropbox

Select the .KMZ file in Dropbox. The file will automatically open in SightSpace.

Select the "Open" or "Preview" button in your email message (button text will vary depending on which email client you are using.) The .KMZ file will automatically open in SightSpace. If you select "Download", the .KMZ file will save to your device. Open SightSpace, tap Load -> Device Models -> All to automatically search your device for all .KMZ models. Your file will appear in the list. Tap to open.

When browsing the Google 3D Warehouse, look for 'View in SightSpace 3D' links associated with the model.

Select the Target icon to search for nearby models within the Google 3D Warehouse. Choose a search radius.

Note: Not all models are available for viewing in SightSpace 3D and those models will not have a 'View in SightSpace 3D' link

Controls

  • SightSpace 3D reads .KMZ files. Select "Device Models" from the "Load" button to load a Google SketchUp model already on your Android device.
    • Load a model onto the device via USB connected to your computer.
  • Select "Google 3D Warehouse" to open the Google 3D Warehouse and download a model (look for "View in SightSpace 3D" link). Requires internet connection.
  • Open .KMZ files from Dropbox by selecting the .KMZ file in Dropbox. The file will open in SightSpace.
  • Open .KMZ email attachments by tapping either the "Open" or "Preview" button. The file will open in SightSpace.

Select "Device Models" from the "Load" button to show all models currently on the device. Tap on a model to load into SightSpace 3D. Tap "Recent" to display your recently opened models. "All" will search your devices for all .KMZ files.

To delete a model, tap the Trashcan, and tap the Trashcan icon next to the file you want to delete. Confirm delete.

  • Orbit – use a single finger to rotate around the model
  • Look Around – use a single finger to look up, down, left and right
  • Background – change the model background image to a Photo on the device, a live Camera feed (on devices with a camera), or set to No Background. Model can be resized and located over the selected background.
  • Stereo 3D (Red/Cyan) - View your model in 3D with a pair of red-cyan 3D glasses

Select + Bookmark icon on toolbar to add a bookmark of the current model view. Select Bookmarks on the bottom Tab bar to view all current model bookmarks. To delete a bookmark, tap on trashcan delete button. Bookmarks are associated with the active model. To close the Bookmark window, tap your device's Back button or tap outside of the Bookmark window.

The camera button takes a photo of what is currently displayed on the screen. These images are stored in the Photos tab bar item and are associated with the model photographed. An image can be shared by selecting Photos on the Tab bar, choosing the desired photo, and selecting the Share icon. Photos may also be saved.

The AR button turns on Augmented Reality mode and is only available on supported devices (phones and tablets with either 1)compass/accelerometer + camera or 2) compass/accelerometer/gyroscope + camera). The digital Google SketchUp, Google Earth, or Google 3D Warehouse model is positioned in physical space and viewed through the device camera.

If you are not located near the model, you are prompted for a location by receiving a top-down view of the active model and tapping a location (pinch-zoom and single-finger pan to move to desired locale).

Touch controls in AR mode:

  • Single finger pan to move the model up, down, left, right
  • Pinch-zoom to move forward and back
  • Double tap to choose a new location
    • Note: Double tapping for a location will turn off GPS updates. These controls can be used with both a geolocated and non geolocated model.

Turn off GPS: The device continuosly updates its location information. At times, this can result in a model-shift. If you like the location of your model and dislike the location updates provided, you can turn off the GPS with this button.

Note that the model is displayed at real-world scale because it is geolocated and the device has location information. If geolocation is not available, the model is still displayed.

3D: Turn on Red/Cyan Stereoscopic 3D, viewable with a pair of red/cyan 3D glasses. 3D stereoscopic model is superimposed over the live camera feed.

To place a note on the current model, tap location and type. Previously placed notes appear in Notes view with a yellow bubble.

Share notes by tapping on the note and selecting the Share icon. Notes are emailed with a picture of the note location on the model.

Delete notes by tapping on the note and selecting the Trashcan icon.

The Photos tab bar item displays images taken with the Camera button. Select Share to send the desired image via email, to Dropbox, or share through numerous other means. Save to your device is also available. Select Slideshow to enable a slideshow of all pictures associated with the model. Single finger swipe to move through pictures. Click on the Trashcan to delete the selected photo.

SightSpace 3D utilizes a custom 3D engine to display the largest, most complex models possible and takes full advantage of the memory on Android devices. This memory is limited and it is not possible to load every model. In these cases, you will receive an insufficient memory message (to prevent a crash). This section will suggest actions you can take to load the largest, most complex models possible.

If you receive a memory message or an error, try the following:

  • Decrease the low memory threshold in Settings.
  • Turn off lines in Settings.
  • Reboot your device - this frees up memory for SightSpace 3D to use.
  • Reduce model complexity.
  • If your model still fails to load, contact us at Support@LimitlessComputing.com and we can customize recommendations based on your model.

Configure various model loading options for tuning performance and memory usage under Menu -> Settings -> SightSpace. These options include the following:

  • Turning lines in models on/off: enables loading of larger models
  • Choose to display hidden geometry: this option is best used in conjunction with Google Earth .KMZ files
  • Enable hardware acceleration: Acceleration gives your device a performance improvement. If you notice graphic artifacts such as stripes on your model, disable this setting, but performance will be decreased.
  • Performance-Quality slider: choose between better performance and better model quality
  • 3D Exaggeration slider: choose how much to exaggerate your 3D viewing experience when viewed with red-cyan glasses. Slide towards Maximum to increase model "pop" from the screen.
  • Calibrate the device for optimized Augmented Reality performance (only available on supported devices). Device MUST be placed on a flat surface for proper calibration.
  • Memory Threshold slider: when the available memory of your device drops below this level, SightSpace 3D will stop loading the current model to prevent a crash.
